Q&A: Masturbation During Ramaḍān

Question

What is the ruling (hukm) of masturbating in Ramaḍān, during day time?

Answer

Masturbation is not encouraged in Islam. I mean masturbation is Haram in Islam. One should put in the effort to quit this habit, as it will gradually ruin his youth and weaken him in his elderly age.

In Ramadhan, if one releases semen, during day time against his will, such as in a dream, or without his control, all he has to do, is to take the holy bath (Ghusl), and his fast remains valid. But if he does anything willingly, that causes him to release semen, such as direct sexual intercourse, masturbation, staring his gaze at women, then his fast breaks, and he has to make up, for that day, after Ramaḍān (of course).
