It's Friday! And “Friday is the Master of all days.” [Ḥadīth].
The best form of remembrance (Dhikr) done on Fridays, is to send peace and blessings upon the Prophet, ṣallā Allāhu ʾalaihi wa sallam.
We now live in a time when most of us spend our time online and on social media. Our way of communication has also evolved to be sign language and abbreviations.
We may communicate with each using them, but I wonder if we can communicate with Allāh using sign language (unless we are mute) and abbreviations.
Sending peace and blessings (ṣalāh and salām) upon the Prophet is a form of supplication, which is done through communication. Therefore, let’s make it a point to send him ṣalah and salām in full phrases/statements, rather than abbreviations, signs and symbols. Let’s replace s.a.w/SAW with “ṣallā Allāhu ʾalaihi wa sallam” or “salla Allahu alaihi wasallam.” We can also replace “a.s.” with “ʾAlaihi al-Salām.” Let’s replace “PBUH” with “peace be upon him.”
If we feel lazy to send peace and blessings to the Prophet, ṣallā Allāhu ʾalaihi wa sallam, in full statements when we text or type, then we shouldn’t expect our texts' readers to bother, to uncode our coded texts (abbreviations).
We may have to pay extra, in SMS costs. But, isn’t it worth paying a few more cents, to get someone send peace and blessings upon the Prophet Muḥammad, ṣallā Allāhu ʾalaihi wa sallam?
May Allah send peace and blessings upon our Master, Muḥammad. Ṣalla Allāhu ʾalā Sayyidinā Muḥammad. Ṣallā Allāhu ʾalaihi wa sallam. Salla Allahu alaihi wasallam. ʾAlaihi al-Salām.
If you are able to adopt this for the whole of one Friday, I hope by the next day (Saturday) it’ll be your habit, inshā Allāh.
Allāh knows best.
Allāhu Ḥāfiẓ
