Introduction

Alhamdulillah… infinite thanks and praise are due to the Almighty Allah. Complete peace and blessings are upon our teacher of all time, Sayyiduna Muhammad, his household, his companions, and all those who follow his guided path.

In the material world we live in, and based on the human logic we’re obsessed with, no matter how weak or vulnerable one is, he feels safe and secure when he has some precautions in place. On the other hand, no matter how strong and powerful one is, he becomes weak and vulnerable the moment he feels threatened by any form of perceived harm.

The truth is, the same is true in our spiritual life. This means, with some precautions in place, the spiritually weak becomes strong and safe, while in the absence of such spiritual precautions, a person who used to be strong becomes weak, and weak indeed.

As the title of this article suggests, I’m sharing with you some easy du’as in simple steps of practice for spiritual protection. If you read to the end, I’ll share with you a bonus practice for premium spiritual protection, insha Allah.

The article comes according to the following sections:

Before I forget, kindly note that this article is also the text version of a video carrying the same title on this site’s channels, Al-Bushra by GSalam on YouTube and Facebook. You may watch the video below:

Also, kindly note, that this article comes as an elaboration to a brief article written 10 years ago, titled Simple Du’a for Protection. It’s hoped that this version is comprehensive while it remains simple, insha Allah.

First things first, let’s create a common ground.

Suggested Stages for Your Protection

There are two stages you need to practice for the effect of what’s suggested in this video to take place. The first stage is a prerequisite to the second. But you can still stick to the first stage and attain the spiritual protection we’re aiming to attain. This means you don’t jump to the second stage undermining the first stage.

Now that we’ve established a common ground, let’s dive into Stage One. Are you ready?

top

Stage One

Stage One, which is a prerequisite to Stage Two has four steps of practice.

And the first step is to… Pray first times a Day…

#1: Pray 5 Times A Day

Yes, that’s right… The first step of practice is to observe the second most significant pillar in Islam. That’s is to pray five times a day. Something worthy of mentioning here is that, when we pray five times a day, we pray properly. We pray according to the way The Prophet Muhammad ṣallā Allāhu ’alayhi wa sallam prayed and taught his companions.

When we pray five times a day, we pray at their prescribed times. We don’t combine them, unless with a valid reason to do so. On the mention of praying five times a day, you may want to check out my article, titled, “Why Do I Find It Difficult to Pray?” You may also be interested in “How to Focus and Attain Khushu’ in Solat”.

Once that is set and clear, we can move on to the second step. And that is to recite Ayatul-Kursi after every prescribed prayer.

#2: Recite Ayatul-Kursi Every Prescribed Prayer

Yes… The second step of practice is to recite Ayatul-Kursi after every prescribed prayer. That will mean five times a day.

Please check my article, titled 8 Recommended Times for Reading Ayatul-Kursi to make more sense of the significance of Ayatul-Kursi, in addition to it being an effective ingredient for spiritual protection.

Now, we move on to our next step of practice. And that is to recite the Three Quls once after every prescribed prayer.

#3: Recite the 3 Quls After Every Prescribed Prayer

The third practice is to recite The Three Quls once each, after every prescribed prayer. It’s worth indicating, that it’s preferred that you recite them after reciting Ayatul-Kursi. However, there’s no harm if you recite them before Ayatul-Kursi.

Do note, that the second and third steps of practice are connected with the first step, and that’s ensuring you never miss your prescribed prayers. Therefore, their validity is determined by whether or not one offers the prescribed prayers.

In other words, one can’t simply say, “Oh.. I don’t have the time to offer my prescribed prayers, but I will squeeze some moments out of my busy schedule to recite the second and third practices.” No, it’s not done that way. It shouldn’t seem as if we are doing Allah any favour when we worship Him. In fact, we are doing ourselves the favour we need when we worship Allah.

Sadly, it’s only dunya that will keep us away from observing our prescribed prayers. And if the Muslim doesn’t pray five times a day, then what actually does he do in this life? What does he live for? What is his direction in life? What does he actually want to achieve or accomplish in the end?

Now, let’s move on to the fourth step. And that is to repeat the second and third steps when you go to bed.

#4: Recite Ayatul-Kursi and the 3 Quls When You Go to Bed

The fourth practice is to recite Ayatul-Kursi and the Three Quls when you go to bed. Every night. It’s even better if you’ll take ablution before going to sleep.

Once you become familiar with this, then you may move on to the second stage.

Note, that you can start both Stage One and Stage Two today if you don’t already observe them. But just in case you are not familiar with them, then start with Stage One.

Stage Two

At the beginning of Stage Two in seeking spiritual protection, just in case you bypassed the early section, and scrolled down to this point, then allow me to repeat this important note.

That is: if you’re truly looking for simple du’as that you can practice for spiritual protection, then you must start with Stage One. It serves as a prerequisite to Stage Two.

In other words, you can observe the first stage without moving on to the second stage. But you can’t abandon the first stage simply because you’ve upgraded to the second stage. However, combining them both gives you stronger protection, by the will of Allah.

So what are the practices of the second stage? It starts with morning and evening Adhkar.

#1: Read Your Morning and Evening Adhkar

The first practice under the second stage is to recite your morning and evening adhkar. Adhkar is a plural form of dhikr. The Messenger of Allah ṣallā Allāhu ’alayhi wa sallam has recited them and taught them to different companions in different times.

You’ll be happy to know, that they include Ayatul-Kursi and the Three Quls as well. This means, upon reciting Ayatul-Kursi and the Three Quls in the morning (which is after you’ve done your Ṣubḥ prayers and all its recitation) and evening (which is anytime after ‘Aṣr prayers till Maghrib), just by doing that, you’ve done a significant portion of Stage Two’s practices.

Additionally, you should recite :

Sayyidul-Istighfar

“O Allah, You are my Lord, there is none worthy of worship but You. You created me and I am your slave. I keep Your covenant, and my pledge to You so far as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I admit to Your blessings upon me, and I admit to my misdeeds. Forgive me, for there is none who may forgive sins but You.”

Hasbiyallah

حَسْبِيَ اللهُ لَآ إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ.ـ

“Allah is sufficient for me. There is none worthy of worship but Him. I have placed my trust in Him, He is Lord of the Majestic Throne.”

Bismillah alladhi la yadurru…

“In the Name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”

Audhu bikalimatillah

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ.ـ

For more on morning and evening adhkār, you may refer to the Morning and Evening Adhkar Page on this website. Also, you can refer to the relevant chapter of the Fortress of the Muslim’s book. In fact, I strongly suggest that you get a copy of the book as your companion. You’ll be happy to know, that you can have an app for it as well.

#2: Read Surah al-Baqarah

Another practice you will want to adopt is reading Surah Al-Baqarah. If possible, daily. Or as frequently as you can.

Reading Surah Al-Baqarah over a period of time will change your life. Change of life doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll become rich and famous. Mind you, we’re talking about attaining spiritual protection. When you attain it, your anxieties will be washed away. You’ll not be bothered with unnecessary fears in your heart. You’ll only fear Allah.

Here are 7 Reasons You Must Start Reading Surah Al-Baqarah Right Away. On the mention or reading Surah Al-Baqarah, if you’re wondering, whether it suffices to listen to the recitation of the Surah or the entire Qur’an that matters instead of reading it personally, then you may want to check out this episode of A Moment Please!, titled, Surah Al-Baqarah: Listening Instead of Reading.

The third practice in stage two is to start reading something from the Qur’an, every day.

#3: Read Something From the Qur’an, Everyday

This is besides your habit of reading Surah Al-Baqarah or Ayatul-Kursi or even the Three Quls. Read at least a page from the Qur’an… and maintain that until you read the entire Qur’an. And repeat that rotation for life.

It will be good if you understand what you read when you read the Qur’an. But still, read, even if you don’t understand. And here are 8 Reasons You Should Read the Qur'an Everyday Even If You Don't Understand It.  When you decide to keep up with this journey, then here are 7 Things That Entitle You for the Companionship of the Quran. This will guide you to be companions of the Quran, Insha Allah.

Once you’re settled with that, let’s move on to the fourth and final practice of Stage Two. And that is to quit listening to music.

#4: Quit Listening to Music

Yes… That’s right. Quit listening to music if you are serious about the spiritual protection we’ve been talking about from the beginning of this article. In fact, quitting listening to music is one of the four steps to establishing a strong bond with the Qur’an.

Please spare some time to read my article, “5 Reasons and 4 Steps to Establish a Strong Bonding with the Qur’an”.

Now, let’s move on to the bonus practice.

The Bonus Practice

The bonus practice, which is indeed, effective in keeping you spiritually safe and protected is to embark on qiyamullayl.

Yes, Qiyamullayl or night prayer. Qiyamullayl is a powerful firewall against spiritual attacks. In fact, you can consider it that, when you embark on Qiyamullayl, you earn yourself premium spiritual protection. I have a series of four episodes on this matter on our Al-Bushra by GSalam channel. See them below:

Now, it’s time to wrap up.

Let’s Wrap Up!

We’ve learnt the two stages of obtaining spiritual protection against evil and anything harmful. Each stage has four practices to observe. The first stage is a prerequisite to the second.

While you can stick to the first stage only, you can’t stick to the second stage without having done the first. And you’ll reap the best results when you combine practising both stages.

We have also shared The Bonus Practice.

Here, it’s important to highlight one essential thing. That is, just as the second stage is built on the first, both stages together with the bonus practice are built on the correctness of one’s faith.

Therefore, the Muslim must ensure he’s of the correct faith. More importantly, he must beware of the nullifiers of faith that we either take for granted or are oblivious about.

For more on the nullifiers of the faith, keep an eye on this website for our next video and article of Did You Know?!, Insha Allah.

Another thing worth highlighting is that the practices suggested in this article are, indeed effective in keeping you protected and safe, by the will of Allah. However, that’s not all the benefits they come with.

In addition to keeping you spiritually safe and protected, they are forms of ‘Ibadah (acts of worship) that keep you close to Allah. They also keep you on the pure tawḥīd, with which you won’t need to resort to seeing sorcerers and fortune-tellers. They also keep you away from scam activities of some individuals who pose as spiritual healers but are, in reality, scammers. And sometimes, they are sorcerers and black magicians.

May Allah help us in remaining steadfast in the correct faith. May He safeguard us and our loved ones. May He protect us against all sorts of evil and harmful acts or encounters. May He grant us the guidance and courage needed to refine our dunya for the best interest of our Akhirah.

Until we meet in the next article or video of The Good News, I leave you in Allah’s protection.

See you then, and see you in Jannah.

Allah knows best.
