When Ramadan Arrives: Which of The People Are You?

Alhamdulillah… Infinite praise and thanks are due to the Almighty Allah, who prescribed fasting during the blessed month of Ramadan upon us. Complete blessings and salutations are upon the best of whomever observed fasting during the month of Ramadan, Sayyidinā Muhammad, his household, his companions, and all those who follow his guided path.

When Ramadan Arrives

With a few days that separate us from Ramadan, people prepare for the blessed month in various ways. In this article, we reflect on the various categories of people, in the hope be sure of what we do and who we become during the month that carries a night more valuable than 1000 months combined.

The Business Mindset

When Ramadan arrives, some of us are all set, with plans in place to make the most profit in our businesses during the month.

Individuals of this category vary. While some focus on their business, they also make some time for their prayers and other religious recommendations. But their businesses still take the biggest portion of their time.

On the other hand, some only think about their businesses. And any activity that engages them with prayers and other religious activities come coincidental or receive less priority.

The Hungry Mindset

On the other hand, when Ramadan arrives, some are all set, with plans and menus of the types of food and desserts they will consume during the month.

Within this category, some are careful and have planned for only healthy choices. At the same time, some can only imagine the feeling of hunger that must be overcome at the end of a long day of fasting. Thus, whatever they’re going to consume must be sweetly sweet and tastily tasty. Health concerns can wait.

Knowingly or unknowingly, many who fall under this category have their Ramadan memories tied to food, food, and food.

The Ready-to-Fast Person

When Ramadan arrives, another group of us have their plans in place, with which they hope to have a successful fasting process. The fasting itself, regardless of what they breakfast with or take in during saḥūr.

Some individuals in this category have businesses and other commitments, but Ramadan and its relevant activities take priority from their time.

Other individuals within this group are those whose hearts are with the month. But they don’t have control over their time, by virtue of employment or duty. However, they never waste any small chance that come their way. Besides fasting, they don’t underestimate any chance that allows them to perform their tarāwīḥ, even if it’s two sets of Raka’ah.

The Assistant of the Chained Devils

When Ramadan arrives, some groups of humans are all set with programmes, on TV or on social media platforms with one purpose in mind. That’s to distract those who fast. To illude them with sexual contents, or contents that will render them aimless.

Such distractions reach its peak specifically during the month of Ramadan. This is despite the fact that even the Devil himself, and the bigger devils are chained up during the blessed month, as said by the Prophet ṣallā Allāhu ’alayhi wa sallam.

However, it seems these big devils pump in their followers among humans with enough evil before they get chained by the time of the arrival of the month.

The ‘Who-Cares’ Mindset

When Ramadan arrives, while some Muslims prepare to welcome the blessed month, with everyone having his intention and expectations at the back of his mind, some other Muslims never thought of the month.

And they are not moved by the fact that this is the month in which the Night of the Decree occurs once every year. They don’t give a dime to the fact that fasting this month for the sake of Allah alone entitles one to forgiveness of all his sins and wrongdoings from the previous Ramadan.

When Ramadan Arrives: What’s Should the Muslim Do?

What is the best the Muslim should do, as Ramadan arrives? To answer this simple question, it’s important for the Muslim to remember that we learn the entire Islam from the Messenger of Islam, The Prophet Muhammad ṣallā Allāhu ’alayhi wa sallam.

How did he prepare for Ramadan? And how did he live and observe Ramadan? The Prophet ṣallā Allāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam encouraged us to have our saḥūr and also breakfast on time. However, never did he do, nor did he encourage his wives and Muslim women to spend a lot of time on cooking and going through food recipes.

Instead, the Prophet ṣallā Allāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam devoted most (if not all) of his time in Ramadan to reading the Qur’an and remembering Allah besides the fasting itself.

May Allah move our hearts towards that which pleases Him always. May we live to see and experience the best Ramadan so far.

Allah knows best.
Allahu Hafiz 🙂
